Bhagvan Mahavir Sanctuary is the biggest of the three sanctuaries of Goa. It has a total area of 240 sq. km of tropical forestland dotted with occasional grassy Savannah’s and tribal villages.

The sanctuary is rich in wildlife and has a large no. of different kinds of birds. It is a paradise for bird watchers. Besides flora and fauna there are many important geological and historical features in this sanctuary.

The highlight of a trip to this sanctuary, is a visit to the Dudhsagar Waterfalls, in the southeast region of the park. Dudhsagar falls, about an hour’s journey from Molem by train, is a feast for the eyes.

Animals are allowed to roam free in the reserve. Some members of the Dhangar community of nomadic buffalo herders also inhabit this reserve, and can be seen tending to their buffaloes in the grassy plains and winding rivers. The Dept. of Tourism has built comfortable cottages and dormitories for tourists.
