Pin Valley National Park
Pin Valley National Park is situated in the cold desert of Spiti Valley. The area has a mountainous track with elevation from 3,700 to 6,600 mts from the mean sea level. The park is perpetually covered with snow above 5,000mts.
In this area, visitors come across large herds of Ibex and Bharal. Snow leopard, Tibetan Wolf, Red Fox are found in this park. Tibetan Wolf, Red Fox, Snow Cock can also be found. Visitors can see different bird species like the Himalayan Snowcock, Chukor, Tibet Snow Finch, Kestrels, Bearded Vulture among others.
In summer, flowers decorate the valley with startling hues. Only those who have tough leg muscles and strong lungs can visit this area. Due to heavy snowfall, it is risky to visit the Park from late December to March.
The park is uninhabited but there are 17 villages with a total population of 1,258 people, in the adjacent buffer zone. Some 2,800 livestock from these villages graze inside the park, together with additional numbers of sheep and goats from Kinnaur.
