India water is a home to large variety of fish. India’s rivers acquire about 31 species of freshwater fish which are of interest to anglers. The Mahseer is the toughest fresh water fighting fish in the world, and India is the only breeding ground for it.
The adventurous settings for angling and fishing range from the majestic Himalayan valleys, snow-fed streams and high altitude lakes to the wide coastal stretches of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The fresh water lakes like the Dodital surrounded by the Himalayan peaks are excellent for the catch regardless of the season.
Angling or sportfishing is possible on Indian rivers almost throughout the year. But monsoon is the time of fish breeding. Therefore, October to November and mid-February to mid-May are the best times to go sportfishing in India.
