Garwal culture

Garhwal is known as “Dev Bhumi”. Its culture and history is very old. It dates back to seventh and eight century AD. It was during this time Yavans started capturing the most part of plains in India.

During this period, many kings left their kingdoms and came to Uttaranchal with their families, army and priests and permanently settled there. The major portion of inhabitants of Garhwal consists of Rajputs. Second major population is of Brahmins. Rest of the population is a mix of other castes. (more…)

Madhorao Temple of Mandi

Raja Suraj Sen of Mandi married several times but was unfortunate to be blessed with a heir-apparent, the son. He consulted the scholars well versed in the religious ‘ Shastras ‘ and the astrologers. On their advice he abdicated his kingship to Madhorao, the form of Vishnu and spent the rest of his life as his regent and representative. (more…)
