Indian Railway Budget 2015-16

The Railway Budget will signal the direction of long-term reforms needed to revamp the world’s fourth-largest rail network said Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu. He also announce that ” Despite Railway is passing through hard times we have tried our best to fulfil people’s aspirations and expectation (in the budget) “.

In his speech he added : In next 5 years, our aim is to increase existing capacity for high density networks. Our goal is to make Rail a safer means of travel. 20,000 suggestions received to improve Railways. Railways will continue to be precious national asset and will continue to serve common man.

12:30 PM – Increase number of mechanised laundry, an All India 24-7 helpline number will become operational.

12:33 PM – Operation 5 minutes to ensure that a passenger travelling unreserved can purchase a ticket within 5 minutes.

12:35 PM – SMS alert services for passengers to inform them about arrival and departure of trains.

12:41 PM – 24 to 26 coaches in certain identified trains, more general class coaches, ladders to be replaced.

12:42PM -Modern facilities for disabled citizens, senior citizens, patients through IRCTC.

12:43PM – 67% more funds allotted for passenger amenities.

12:44PM -Train sets saving 20% journey time, similar to bullet trains to be introduced.

12:45PM -Satellite railway terminals in major cities – 10 select stations.

12:48PM – In 400 stations wi-fi facility will be provided.

12:50PM – Private freight terminals reviewing of WLS, SFTO, PFT schemes under process; automatic freight rebate system launched and to be expanded.

12:51PM – 1330% increase in railway electrification over previous year.

12:52M – By 2019, the proposed investment in Railways would be in tune of Rs 856021 crore.

12:53PM – Advance reservation period increased to 120 days.

12:54PM -Speed will be increased, so Delhi-Kolkata journey can now be done overnight.

12:56PM – Speedier Railway- 9 hi-speed corridors, high speed trains, Make in India opportunities.

12:57PM – Travel between Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata to be an overnight journey.

12:58PM – For safety of women, cameras will be provided in selected mainline coaches and ladies compartments.

12:59PM – Toll free number 182 created for security related complaints: Railway minister.

01:10PM – Rs 2000 crore for Coastal Connectivity Program.

01:10PM – Coastal connectivity programme will be launched this year.

01:11PM – You can now book your rail meal from a food chain online.

01:12PM – Safety is of paramount importance. Loss of human life is too heavy a price to pay.

01:13PM – 1000MV Solar plants to be set-up by developers at own cost.

01:14PM – ‘Request MPs to use part to MPLAD funds to improve facilities.

01:15PM – Railway to move to paperless ticketing, to introduce hand held device for TTEs.

01:17PM – IRCTC will establish a Gandhi circuit to promote tourism.

01:25PM – WiFi will be provided at all B category stations.

Finally we have Rail budget for forth coming session 2015-16 and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu ended his budget presentation. But it is very bad that no new trains are announced in Rail Budget.
